The Pilates tower is a tall vertical structure consisting of springs and bars with a flat mat.
Combining the resistance of the springs and bars of the tower with the precise movements of mat work, teaches the student how their muscles stretch and move through space.
This ‘muscle awareness’ helps the student use their bodies more effectively and efficiently with greater accuracy of movement for mat work.
The tower is used to break down more complex, challenging movements into smaller segments which aids the learning process and enables the right muscle connections to take place.
Working on the tower offers the ability to focus on specific parts of the body which need attention. For example; shortened hamstrings, tight hip flexors, sore lower back, opening the chest and tight shoulders.
Tower classes are quite different to mat and reformer classes as there is no set order to the exercise sequence. This enables the trainer to create a combination of exercises to suit the class and the students’ needs on that particular day.
Tower classes begin with mat work to warm up the body and then move onto working in the tower unit.
It is a requirement that ‘Tower students’ be of the same or similar level of competency.
Tower classes have a maximum of 6 students per lesson.
